Paddle Tennis

PLATFORM TENNIS AT LAKEVILLE, CT  -  SEPTEMBER, 2011
Welcome back to our paddle players!
Where did the summer go?  Oh well, it is time for paddle to begin and the committee is looking forward to this wonderful cool/cold–weather sport.  Please fill out the enclosed application and return it with your fee.  For those who are not on our mailing list, there are extra applications in the kiosk at the courts, at Town Hall, and on the Recreation Commission Web site.
We have set up some dates for you to mark on your calendars.  Drop-in paddle begins on October 18 at 5:30.  It will continue every Tuesday evening.  Paddle Day will be on Sunday, October 30.  A clinic for adult beginners will be held at 11, a demonstration at noon, and open play at 1. In addition to men’s play, there will be high-caliber mixed and women’s play on display.  Pizza, snacks, and finger desserts for all will be provided.  Our annual tournament with lunch will be on Saturday, January 28, 2012.  A new, fun event is scheduled for Saturday, March 3, 2012.  It will be a play mixer in the late afternoon followed by a party for all members and their guests.
As we have done previously, a regular weekly game of 1-1/2 hours can be blocked after all four members of the game have sent in a fee.  New this year is that 2 hours of play will be allotted if 8 people are using both courts at the same time and mixing up the games.  All blocked time will be listed on our Web site TeamSnap and on two boards in the kiosk.  If you are not using a blocked court, please cancel it by notifying Jane Keiter or by a message on TeamSnap.
Becky at Peter Beck’s Village Store in Salisbury is excited about the paddle season.  The price for a case of Viking Heavy Duty Balls (the official ball of the APTA) is $240 plus tax.  (PaddlePro has raised its price to $325 plus shipping.)  Consider purchasing a case and splitting it between your fellow players.  Peter Beck’s will sell a single sleeve for $12 (Viking and PaddlePro are both $15).  The store also has rackets and a 10% discount on paddle-related clothing in a special section.
We hope that everyone will get in lots of play this year.  Introduce a friend or two to this great game.

A reminder that the courts are for paddle only; no other ball games should be played on them. An empty court is not to be used as a dog pen.
