2012 Baseball info

Dear Salisbury Families: 

Baseball season is almost here and it is time to register for the Salisbury Recreation baseball program. 

Last year, Salisbury had enough participants in the Major League program to support 2 teams in the Mid County Baseball League  Major League division.   Should we have the numbers to support 2 teams again this year we will do so. 

The following criteria must be met in order for Salisbury Recreation Commission to consider entering two teams in the major division this season again this season.

1. The recreation director must receive a sufficient number of registrations for the major league program by the registration deadline. 
2. Each player must participate in the tryout process.

If the above criteria are met, up to 24 players from tryouts will be selected. These players will be divided into two teams of similar talent, consisting of up to 12 players per team to compete in the Major League division. 

If the above criteria are NOT met then Salisbury will hold tryouts for all who have registered.  One team consisting of up to 12 players will be chosen and will play in the Major League division. 

As in the past, all players who participate in the tryout process and are not named to a major league team will automatically be placed on a minor league team for the season. No one will be denied the opportunity to play baseball this spring. 

On the registration form it states that the major league program is “a competitive program” which means the following:

All of the teams in the major league division follow the same guidelines and select the strongest players at tryouts to represent their towns.  Players should expect to compete against the best players from each town.   

Playing time is not equal for all players in the major league division.  You can expect that all players will play at least two innings and have one at bat in all games.  Playing time beyond that is not guaranteed for any player and is at the discretion of the coaches. 

 There are a few of exceptions to this rule:

 1. A player is benched by the coach for disciplinary reasons

 2. A player is ejected from a game by the umpire.

 3. A player is injured.

 4. If a game is shortened due to bad weather or darkness.    

Players selected for the Major League team are expected to attend all practices and games.  While we respect participation in other programs should a conflict arise, a commitment to Salisbury baseball is expected to be the priority.
